"Affirmative: Pforzheim is indeed active!"
Pforzheim's Mayor Outlines City Agenda and Business Plans
In a significant turn of events, Pforzheim's annual general meeting concluded with elections for the board of the city, welcoming treasurer Martin Sailer, secretary Wolfram Kienzle, and board members Hans Mann, Werner Schödl, and Kai Adam.
Meanwhile, Mayor Peter Boch, in a notable development, became a member of the Honourable Singers Society on Three Kings' Day. The Honourable Singers Society, one of the oldest citizens' initiatives in Germany with a history of 518 years, held its annual general meeting in Pforzheim's Congress Centre on the same day. Around 150 of the total 483 members attended the meeting, with Master Claus Kuge and Dr. Christoph Mährlein reporting an exceptionally successful year for the Honourables, with around 2,200 visitors attending various cultural and social events.
Mayor Boch served as the guest speaker at the annual general meeting and outlined his agenda for the city, titled "Per Aspera ad Astra", meaning "Through rough paths, one reaches the stars". His agenda includes addressing safety and cleanliness in the city, the swimming pool issue, expanding childcare options, repairing schools, and ensuring proper drainage in schools.
In terms of business development, Mayor Boch plans to open up 100 hectares of new commercial areas in the next four to five years, with a focus on metal processing, precision engineering, the watch and jewellery industry, and the creative economy. He also advocates for intermunicipal cooperation with communities around Pforzheim for business development. Despite the potential increase in collection, Boch considers reducing Business Tax Rates in Pforzheim a necessity.
Regarding the "Inner City East Development" project, which was recently rejected by the city council, Boch wants to promote its development. He also warns against making the castle hill lift project dependent on a single issue and suggests considering changes in traffic management and alternative routes.
Claus Kuge, a representative of the Honourable Singers Society, stated that they occupy an attractive niche with their programme and are an active part of Pforzheim's cultural life. The programme included regular literary and art matinees, lectures on historical topics, and the laying of further stumbling blocks by artist Gunter Demnig. The programme was also supplemented by various trips, including a traditional ski trip, a summer trip to the Rhine, and a multi-day trip to the traces of the Reformation in central Germany.
Mayor Boch emphasizes the importance of digitalization in Pforzheim's future. On January 6, 2023, Friedrich Merz, a prominent politician, presented his program titled "Per Aspera ad Astra" as a guest speaker. Boch sees particular challenges in putting the city's finances on a solid footing and prioritizing tasks for the next city budget.
In conclusion, the annual general meeting marked a significant step forward for Pforzheim, with the election of the new board and Mayor Boch's outline of his ambitious agenda for the city's future. The Honourable Singers Society also celebrated a successful year, contributing significantly to Pforzheim's cultural life. The city looks forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
