In light of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, donations continue to be vital in providing direct aid to those affected in North Rhine-Westphalia. With a focus on swift and unbureaucratic assistance, the DRK Dinslaken and surrounding regions are lending a helping hand to those in need.

Since 2023, Hünxe has been home to two emergency shelters for refugees, and a third, in Bruckhausen, was added last year. With the DRK Kreisverband Dinslaken-Voerde-Hünxe e.V. in partnership with the DRK Kreisverband Oberhausen e.V., these care services act as a direct point of contact, offering services such as food supply and migration counseling.
As part of their efforts, a new project has been launched: By focusing on the specific needs of Ukrainian families and their children, the goal is to help them integrate in Germany more smoothly and make their beginning here easier. This project centers around two main measures:
- Daily Companionship Sponsors: Volunteers will be at the ready to help families with tasks such as doctor appointments, apartment searches, and breaking down language barriers, making life a bit smoother.
- Creative Undertakings for Kids: Safe and enjoyable activities for kids will be organized to foster connection and familiarity with their new environment.
Slated to begin in June 2025, this project is initially set for 12 months. "We're seeking dedicated volunteers who can converse fluently in German, Ukrainian, and other languages to create a supportive community," Managing Director Markus Ivens said.
