Art Gallery of Leeds Announces Collaboration for 'Kids Aloud' Programme
Leeds Art Gallery Embraces Noise and Playfulness this Summer with Kids Aloud Programme
Leeds Art Gallery is set to become a vibrant, child-friendly summer destination as it joins the Kids Aloud programme, an initiative aimed at making museums and galleries more accessible and enjoyable for children and families.
The programme, supported by the Art Fund, a national charity for museums and galleries, will run throughout August 2025, offering a range of special family-friendly events designed to encourage lively expression in a typically quiet gallery environment.
Cllr Salma Arif, executive member for adult social care, active lifestyles, and culture at Leeds City Council, is proud of the city's work to ensure museums and galleries are accessible and family-friendly. She said, "We want to give families the chance to shout about culture and the arts in the incredible surroundings and collection of Leeds Art Gallery."
Parents and their children are offered dedicated timeslots to visit the gallery without fear of being told off or judged for being too loud. Families are encouraged to express themselves and make noise while enjoying the cultural and artistic offerings at Leeds Art Gallery this summer.
The highlights of the programme include shush-free times where children are actively encouraged to be loud and expressive, loud gallery tours, and creative workshops tailored for young visitors. These activities create an inclusive, welcoming space where children and families can explore art without the usual quiet restrictions.
Leeds Art Gallery is one of 20 institutions that offer the Kids Aloud programme across the UK. The programme runs all through August, with the aim that families can "run free" in a museum space celebrating noise and playfulness rather than suppressing it.
Jenny Waldman, director of Art Fund, encourages parents to bring their little ones to museums and art galleries through the Kids Aloud initiative. She said, "The Kids Aloud programme invites children to simply be themselves in museums and art galleries."
More information about the special events can be found at an undisclosed location. With the Kids Aloud programme, Leeds Art Gallery is breaking down traditional barriers for families visiting cultural institutions, making the gallery a lively, joyful summer destination.
