Art sale held today in Iðnó, proceedings to aid displaced youngsters
On Saturday, December 17th, from 2-4pm, an enthralling art auction is taking place in the cultural hub of Iðnó. Here's your chance to support refugee children by investing in unique pieces of art and enjoying some soulful music. The event will display a diverse range of artworks, including magnificent creations by renowned artists and heartfelt pieces by children eager to make a difference.
Esther Þorvaldsdóttir, a founder of Rights for Refugee Children, an organization established in Iceland in 2019, is dedicating her efforts towards ensuring the rights of refugee children are protected. "We are working primarily to encourage the Icelandic government to adhere more closely to the Convention on the Rights of the Child," says Þorvaldsdóttir. She highlights that while the Convention has been legalized, children's rights continue to be violated, and it's essential to bring attention to this issue.
"We have over 60 children on our list, and ensuring they receive proper legal attention is a costly process. We aim to provide them with the 'material procedure' and help prevent similar violations in the future," adds Þorvaldsdóttir.
A number of talented artists have contributed their works to support the cause, and you can even bid on pieces by some of the country's finest artists at the auction. Don't miss the chance to listen to the music of Ásgeir Trausti and Sigríður Thorlacius while you're at it!
Notable artists who have donated their work for the auction include Guðjón Ketilsson, Marit Trönqvist, Hallgrímur Helgason, Þrándur Þórarinsson, Tinna Þorvalds, Annadóttir, Baldur Helgason, Þorvaldur Jónsson, and Mireja Samper, to name a few.
Join us at this remarkable event and be a part of making a real difference in children's lives. Don't forget to grab your tickets online or at the door! Let's unite for a cause, appreciate art, and create an impact together.
