Behind the Scenes of Macpac Production: A Magical Experience
The outdoor community is eagerly anticipating the release of season two of the MSC x Macpac 'How-to' videos, a series of educational videos designed to help beginners navigate outdoor activities with confidence and safety.
The project, filmed in the picturesque Hakatere Conservation Park, is a collaborative effort between two New Zealand-based organizations: MSC, a non-profit organization established in 1965, and Macpac, an outdoor gear company founded in 1973. Quite Nice Films, a Wellington-based videography company, has also joined forces with the teams to bring these informative videos to life.
The videos, which will be available on YouTube and social media, cover a range of topics based on evidence-based research from MSC's insight work. They aim to identify leading causes of key incidents in the New Zealand outdoors and provide practical solutions for a safer outdoor experience. The videos will cover topics such as managing weather, tramping techniques, temperature management, gear care, packing, and specific care for sleeping bags and tents.
The filming day was filled with excitement and adventure, with activities like quick clothing changes, using sleeping bags in summer heat, posing for shots near a wasps nest, and plenty of laughter. The MSC crew, consisting of Rebekah, Tom, Marli, Ros, Jared, and Nathan, worked alongside the Macpac team, which included Holly and Allie, designers and outdoor enthusiasts from Christchurch.
Both organizations are thrilled about the increasing interest in outdoor recreation and the potential of these videos to help new adventurers. They view this project as an opportunity to reconnect with the outdoors and make safety messages more engaging for fellow adventurers.
As the project continues, Jared is responsible for editing the footage back in Wellington, while the team remains committed to ensuring the videos are a useful resource for those wanting to learn how to outdoor activities correctly. With the success of the first season, expectations are high for season two, and the team is looking forward to bringing more outdoor safety knowledge to the community.
