Benefits up for grabs for selfless volunteers

The district of Marburg-Biedenkopf and the university city of Marburg are inviting interested citizens to apply for the Honorary Volunteer Card (Ehrenamtscard). This prestigious card is awarded to individuals who have dedicated their time and effort to volunteering in the region for at least three years, with a minimum of five hours per week using their personal time and effort.

Applications for the Ehrenamtscard can be submitted from October 16, 2025, and the deadline is set for October 15. Citizens from the Landkreis can apply through the Fachdienst Partizipation, Ehrenamt und Sport of the Landkreis, while those living in the city of Marburg can apply via the city's Ehrenamtsfoerderung department. Interested parties can contact the respective departments at the provided phone numbers or via email.

The Ehrenamtscard offers a host of benefits to its holders. Recipients can enjoy a reduced price at the Botanical Garden or the Cineplex cinema, as well as discounts at OBI stores in Biedenkopf, Gladenbach, and Marburg. The Volkshochschulen of the Landkreis and the city of Marburg provide a fee reduction for courses, workshops, and seminars, making lifelong learning more accessible.

Moreover, many cities and communities offer free or reduced admission to their leisure pools and football home games. Holders of the Ehrenamtscard can also look forward to numerous discounts on various events and facilities.

The Ehrenamtscards are traditionally presented at a joint ceremony twice a year. The next presentation ceremony is planned for Thursday, 4 December 2025, with recipients being personally informed about the details of the event.

It's worth noting that around 20,000 engaged people in Hesse have already received the E-Card. The three-year activity requirement is waived for holders of the Jugendleitercard.
