Bermies Founder Seeks $200K on Shark Tank for Eco-Friendly Swimwear
Uki Deane, the founder of Bermies, an eco-friendly swimwear brand, visited Shark Tank seeking a $200,000 investment for a 20% stake in his company. Despite his appearance on the show, Uki Deane and Bermies remain relatively unknown internationally, with no prominent online presence or evidence of their existence.
Uki Deane started Bermies in 2016 and by September 2017, he had earned around $271,000. The brand gained popularity after appearing on Shark Tank and expanded its product range to include sweatshirts, jackets, lounge pants, and other items. Bermies' unique selling point is its eco-friendly nature and distinctive coloring inspired by Bermuda's beaches. The brand sells men's and women's swim trunks and bikinis, with swim trunks made to last, containing 10% lycra and 90% polyester. Each pair costs approximately $9.80 to produce and sells for $49. Uki Deane donates 10% of his earnings to charities that protect marine life and clean up the ocean. As of now, Bermies has removed approximately 5,500,000 plastic bottles from beaches.
Despite its impressive environmental initiatives and unique products, Bermies remains a lesser-known brand internationally. With a staff of six and annual earnings of approximately $4 million, Uki Deane's company has shown steady growth since its founding in 2016. However, the lack of prominent online presence and international recognition suggests that Bermies may still be a regional or niche player in the market.
