Marsberg Shooting Festival Returns to Obermarsberg in August

The traditional Marsberg Shooting Festival is set to take place in Obermarsberg from the 16th to the 17th of August this year. The event, organised by the local shooting clubs, is a highlight of the summer calendar in the region.

The festival kicks off with the official welcome ceremony at 13:30, led by the Obermeister, the mayor of Marsberg, and the local mayor of Obermarsberg. The highlight of the parade, which begins at 14:00 on Sunday, will be at the memorial. The parade includes all king couples with their courts from the city area and the surrounding region, accompanied by shooters, music associations, and marching bands.

One of the main events of the festival is the king's shooting, which starts at 17:00. Matthias Lauerwald, who made the decisive shot at the city shooting festival in 2024, will no doubt be a contender this year. The solemn proclamation of the new city shooting king follows, with subsequent honours.

The festival also features a shuttle service from the Burghof-Center to the "Heimatmuseum" stop, and parking is available above the sports field at the Kalvarienberg, weather permitting. Visitors arriving by private car or taxi can use Kaiser-Karl-Platz as the pick-up and drop-off point on both days.

The festival marks the end of the shooting festival season in the Altkreis Brilon. The evening concludes with the "Great Festival Ball".

For those interested in attending, it is advisable to plan travel in advance, as accommodation and transport options may be limited during the festival. Checking the official Marsberg town website or local shooting club announcements closer to the event date is recommended for the most accurate and current information. Local tourist information offices can also provide up-to-date guidance.

The successors of the current city king and queen, Matthias and Lea Lauerwald, are being sought. For more information, you can visit the official event pages or contact the organiser, the St. Peter and Paul Shooting Brotherhood Obermarsberg.

We look forward to another exciting and traditional Marsberg Shooting Festival in Obermarsberg this August.

Visitors seeking a unique experience beyond the shooting festival could explore the rural haven of Obermarsberg, immersing themselves in an outdoor-living lifestyle, complemented by the picturesque home-and-garden scenery. Post-festival, one could consider a relaxing stroll around the town's "Heimatmuseum" to delve deeper into the local history and traditions.
