Christmas Eve not lonely - but in the hotel

Lone individuals and single parents with children may feel lonely on Christmas Eve. A woman in Hamburg has considered organizing an event for more than 200 people to celebrate together at a hotel this year.

To ensure that financially disadvantaged lone parents and their children in Hamburg do not spend Christmas alone and without gifts, there is the "Fest der Liebe – Heiligabend nicht allein" project. On Tuesday, volunteers and staff at the NYX Hotel in Hamburg packed numerous Christmas gifts for the children. The event will take place on December 24. Nussin Armbrust, the initiative's founder, expects over 200 participants this year.

"This year outdoes everything. We have 122 adults and 83 children, and more registrations are still coming in," Armbrust said. "The need and desperation in a wealthy city like Hamburg are truly shocking," said the single mother, who organized the meeting for financially struggling single parents for the first time in 2017 because she experienced loneliness.

Interested individuals could register for the event until the tenth of December through an online form.

On Christmas Eve, a Santa Claus calls each child personally and delivers their gift. Private individuals, hotel guests, and companies finance the project through donations.
