Church Introduces Engaging Sensory Experience for Worshippers
Luz Cuenca Immersive Art Experience in Cuenca, Ecuador, Equipped with High-Quality KV2 Audio Sound System
Luz Cuenca, a digital immersive art experience housed in the ancient temple of San Miguel, has been equipped with a state-of-the-art sound system provided by KV2 Audio. This choice was made due to KV2 Audio's reputation for delivering high-quality, immersive audio experiences that can precisely reproduce sound in complex environments [1].
The sound system for Luz Cuenca, designed by sound engineer Poti Martín, comprises 12 EX26 two-way active loudspeaker systems evenly distributed along the walls of the nave. Two EX26s reinforce the upper gallery level. In addition, eight EX1.5 subwoofers provide low end reinforcement, distributed in pairs either side of the altar, plus a further pair left and right slightly further down the nave [2].
The EX26 loudspeakers offer wide, even coverage, superb vocal intelligibility, and high-quality musical reproduction. The advanced design of these speakers includes dual 12” bass woofers, horn-loaded midrange, and compression drivers, which provide excellent sound clarity and versatility, supporting very detailed and layered sonic experiences that enhance immersion in artistic spaces [2].
Custom white housings were designed for all the loudspeakers to minimize interference with the video mapping. The audio signals are processed and distributed to the loudspeakers via NST Audio DSP matrices. Ibercover Studio was in charge of production and content design for Luz Cuenca [3].
The unique synergy between the EX26 and the compact EX1.5 subwoofer is noted by Catá. This system setup ensures that every detail of the music can be heard exactly as it's meant to sound, even at low SPLs [4]. The Watchout 6 video playback system sends audio signals track by track [5].
Luz Cuenca is not the only event the system will be used for; it will also be used for other events with more demanding level requirements. The system is expected to sound just as good for events with higher SPL requirements [6]. The multimedia exhibition combines artistic lighting techniques, 2D and 3D projection mapping, and a dramatic orchestral music score powered by a KV2 sound system.
