Revitalizing Wersten: Summer Events Galore
Wersten keeps the excitement flowing, even during the summer break, all thanks to the Wiresten Business Community's creative sparks. This year, the calendar is packed with events such as the Wiresten Rallye, Rock am Bach, the Bee Run, Heimat Summer, and the second edition of the Bier-Deckel. The latter transforms the Werstener Deckel, a green space above the Werstener Tunnel, into an action-packed weekend extravaganza, complete with beer tastings and tunes. Better yet, it's absolutely free!
Got your taste buds ready?
On the inaugural night (July 14), revelers flocked to the Bier-Deckel from 6 PM, soaking up the laid-back ambiance, groovy beats, and tantalizing refreshments. The demand for grilled sausages and fries was sky-high, forcing the organizers to replenish supplies multiple times. For years, events in Wiresten have prided themselves on sustainability, utilizing eco-friendly cups or glasses, and this year was no different. They even introduced reusable trays for currywurst and fries.
Keeping the glass half-full(er)
Those yearning for something beyond the traditional Schumacher Alt-Bier could not help but be intrigued by Carolin Heller and Janine Winkler's startup, Beer-Kong. Established in 2020, these trailblazers brew enticing craft beers, adhering to the German purity law four to five times a year. Although they don't aim to compete with local breweries, they are aiming to ride the wave of a growing trend. Heller and Winkler have already proven that the brewing art doesn't have to be dominated by men.

Their brews include "Citrus Hill - Pale Ale" with American Citra hops for a distinctive aroma (ABV 5.4%), "Bee-Ra - Pale Ale of Power" that's light, hoppy, and refreshing (ABV 5.3%), "Hopped On A Feeling - IPA" boasting German Ariana and Callista hops from the Hallertau (ABV 6.8%), and "Funky Brown - American Brown Ale," offering a malty flavor with hints of chocolate and cookies without excessive sweetness. You can find their beers in numerous Duesseldorf spots, including the Schaukelstuehlchen in the old town or at festivals such as Heimat Summer, or even arrange tastings.
