Design Exposition 2025 in Milan: Explore the Brera Design Apartment before the mass arrival

The Brera Design Apartment, located on the third floor of an early 1900s building in Brera's chic via Palermo, is set to be a design icon during Milan Design Week 2025. Designed by the renowned Zanellato/Bortotto studio, this space is a testament to integrated design thinking, where architecture, interior design, and material innovation converge.

At the heart of the concept is a partnership with Atlas Concorde, a leader in ceramic materials. Large slabs of these materials are integrated into the apartment’s design as dynamic architectural and decorative elements, showcasing ceramics as not just functional but contributing to a coherent design language and narrative experience within the space.

The bedroom titled 'Desert', inspired by Namibia, is a prime example of this approach. It features a fitted carpet by Radici and a wooden rug by CC-Tapis. The bedroom's 'Desert' room was the most difficult to create due to its personal inspiration and technical challenges.

The first room, named 'Fields', honours Italian photographer Luigi Ghirri and his love for the Emilia Romagna region. The dining room, titled 'Barene', is an homage to the Venetian lagoon. The living room, named 'Caigo', displays contemporary artists' works and sculptures on a wooden shelf made by Lunardelli Venezia.

The new 'Clay' armchair by Moroso is featured in a corner of the apartment, while the onyx coffee table, inspired by the typical marbling papers of Venice, boasts enamel plates, a result of Zanellato and Bortotto's collaboration with Moroso. The space also takes inspiration from Venice's San Giorgio Maggiore Marina, as depicted in the paintings of Virgilio Guidi.

Some artworks in the apartment were chosen in collaboration with Nicola Ricciardi, director of Miart. Two yellowish cushions add a poetic touch to Saba Italia's 'Vela' sofas in the living room. The bathroom in the Brera Design Apartment is themed 'Volcan', paying homage to Mount Etna’s black landscape.

Gio Ponti's fired enamel plates technique is revealed to have been a significant influence on the design, as disclosed by Zanellato. The Brera Design Apartment, with its personal objects scattered throughout and its immersive spatial experience, is a must-visit during Milan Design Week 2025. After the event, the apartment will continue to serve as a space for exhibitions, meetings, and displays.
