Detmold's 'GroundAir' Competition Aims to Green the City
Detmold mayor Frank Hilker has set a clear goal: to make the city more livable and sustainable. The 'GroundAir' competition, organized by Provinzial and joined by Detmold, Münster, Minden, and Bielefeld, encourages citizens to transform sealed surfaces like courtyards and driveways into green spaces.
Citizens are invited to participate by uploading before-and-after photos of their unsealed surfaces at bodenluft.net. The competition offers cash prizes and vouchers for garden centers as incentives. The aim is to create new habitats for plants and animals, improving the city's climate, supporting flood protection, and enhancing the quality of stay for residents and visitors.
To facilitate the transformation, worn-out stones can be disposed of via recycling centers Hellsiek and Maibolte, or picked up directly from the city in special cases. Mayor Hilker emphasizes the importance of this initiative in achieving Detmold's sustainability goals.
Detmold's participation in the 'GroundAir' competition is a significant step towards a greener, more sustainable city. By encouraging citizens to open up sealed surfaces, the city aims to boost biodiversity, mitigate climate change, and improve the overall living environment. The competition offers practical support and incentives for residents to contribute to this worthy cause.
