Development aid for rural areas: Inclusion of Hünfeld in actions for advancement in Hessen

The Hessian Ministry of Home Affairs has announced six new municipalities that will benefit from its annual funding program for village development. The program aims to promote sustainable development, improve living conditions, and strengthen community identity in villages and small municipalities across Hesse.

The newly recognized municipalities for the period 2025 to 2031 are Grasellenbach, Hünfeld, Wildeck, Oestrich-Winkel, Volkmarsen, and Waldkappel. Each municipality will have the opportunity to apply for funding to support infrastructure projects, revitalization of village centers, social and cultural initiatives, and environmental improvements.

Minister of Home Affairs Ingmar Jung emphasized the importance of local involvement, stating that the funds are planned to achieve the greatest benefit for the local population. He added that the program offers numerous options for funding, including renovating community centers, redesigning village squares, renovating public pools, creating housing through private builders, and improving community facilities and infrastructure.

Jung also mentioned that the program provides funding for housing development through private builders, which he considers an important building block for strengthening rural areas. He stated that the use of the funding for village development is decided locally by a specially established steering group, which includes citizens.

The presentation of the certificates for the newly recognized municipalities will take place in the coming weeks at the respective locations. It is worth noting that a total of 85 municipalities with 614 districts are currently included in the funding program.
