New Low-Carbon Development in Manchester's Ancoats

Manchester is set to welcome a new sustainable housing development, located in the heart of Ancoats. The development, named 'This City', is being constructed by the company Wates and will offer a total of 118 apartments across two buildings, with a third of the homes available at the government's Local Housing Allowance rate (LHA).

The development will include 10 townhouses, seven of which will have disabled parking spaces. Eight of the townhouses will have three bedrooms, and two will boast four bedrooms. The apartments consist of 27 one-bed and 91 two-bed homes.

The project is part of a 20-year regeneration journey in Ancoats, and the aim, according to Cllr Gavin White, Manchester City Council's executive member for housing and development, is to build affordable homes in locations residents want, using Council-owned land.

Each townhouse will include off-street parking and electric vehicle charge points, promoting sustainable travel. The development will also include a significant amount of planting and new trees to foster a low-carbon, sustainable neighbourhood.

Wates is not only investing in the construction of these low-carbon homes but also in the local community. They have pledged £500,000 towards Voluntary Community and Social Enterprises and offer 140 weeks' worth of work experience for students, aiming to encourage young people into the construction sector.

Cllr Gavin White commented on the development, saying, "This development is a great example of how we can use Council-owned land to deliver affordable homes in locations that residents want to live." He further added, "We are committed to working with developers like Wates to create high-quality, sustainable homes for our residents."

The Rodney Street development exemplifies this vision, continuing the regeneration of Ancoats and providing a new, eco-friendly living space for Manchester's residents.
