The Festival of Cultures Celebrates Diversity in Ingolstadt

The Festival of Cultures, a vibrant multicultural event, took place on the Danube embankment and surrounding areas in Ingolstadt. The festival, which typically occurs in late July, is a celebration of the city's rich cultural diversity and is organised by groups such as the Romanian Friendship Circle and led by local cultural leaders like Denis Hames.

This year, the festival took place on a Friday afternoon and attracted a diverse crowd of citizens and guests from around the world. The event was emphasised as being important for the city of Ingolstadt, demonstrating that its diversity is a lived reality and a reason to celebrate.

The festival kicked off with a warm, multilingual welcome on stage by Ingrid Gumplinger, a member of the Integration Council, and representatives of all participating cultural associations. Culture Office Director Tobias Klein then opened the event. Notable attendees included Mayor Dr. Michael Kern, Xavier Ross (Head of Personnel, Audi), and Jörg Schlagbauer (Chairman of the General Works Council, Audi).

Throughout the festival, visitors were treated to a variety of international shows and activities. Cultural performances featuring music and traditional dances from diverse countries were a highlight, as were food stalls offering an array of traditional dishes and beverages from different cultures. Additionally, cultural exhibitions and displays showcasing customs, crafts, and traditions were present.

Social and community gatherings were also a significant part of the festival, encouraging interaction and awareness between cultures. One such gathering was the traditional duck race organized by the Lions Club, which proved to be a crowd-puller.

The weather improved during the festival, with sunshine after the clouds parted, adding to the festive atmosphere. The festival continues tomorrow (Saturday), with more international shows, children's activities, and the traditional duck race of the Lions Club.
