Dog enthusiasts advocate for spacious environments in Rödermark: Unwavering tranquility amidst obligations

In the picturesque town of Rödermark, monthly meetings are being held, attracting more and more dog lovers who are determined to see the establishment of off-leash areas for their furry companions. These gatherings, held since the summer, have been a platform for discussions and brainstorming, with the next one scheduled for October 10 at the Restaurant Odenwaldblick in Urberach.

Tanja Weerts and Peter Preisinger, the initiators of the petition for dog off-leash areas in Rödermark, continue to show unwavering determination. They have been advocating for this cause, and their efforts have not gone unnoticed. Contact has been made with Rödermark citizens who are willing to provide their own areas, but cooperation with the municipality has not yet materialized.

The German Animal Welfare Association has weighed in on the topic, publishing a position paper on the leash obligation. The paper states that a leash obligation is only acceptable in certain situations and that there must always be sufficient suitable off-leash areas. This stance further strengthens the demand of the dog lovers in Rödermark, who currently find themselves without any off-leash areas.

Despite little progress since the summer break, the engagement of the dog lovers in Rödermark continues unabated. They have launched a dedicated website to inform and foster exchange about the petition. Exchanging ideas with other initiatives brings new ideas to the Rödermark team.

However, the dog lovers express their disappointment with the slow developments. The Interest Group has not received concrete results regarding the status of the measures. Instead, they were informed that the factions are "examining" which areas would be suitable.

The problem of lacking dog off-leash areas is not exclusive to Rödermark; it is also a concern in other cities. In solidarity, dog lovers in Niedernhausen have initiated a norm control procedure at the Administrative Court in Kassel due to their municipality's lack of response to their suggestions.

Preisinger and Weerts, undeterred, express their determination, stating, "We're sticking with it!". They encourage all interested dog lovers to register by email at [email protected] by October 8. The next meeting will discuss further steps towards achieving a dog off-leash area in Rödermark.
