Downtown Fresno's 'Naomi's House' remains a haven offering safety to female residents
Naomi's House, a transitional housing facility in Fresno, California, is set to expand its services with the addition of a community garden and an on-site medical clinic [1]. This expansion aims to further support women in the community who are experiencing homelessness or vulnerabilities.
Established in the early 2000s in collaboration with the Poverello House, St. Agnes, and the Marjaree Mason Center, Naomi's House has been a beacon of hope for women in need [4]. The facility, located in Downtown Fresno, off F Street, offers more than just a shelter. It provides a safe space for women, complete with 34 beds, a full-sized kitchen, dining area, private showers, and a laundry room [2][3].
When Naomi's House at Holy Cross opened its doors in May, all 34 beds were quickly filled [5]. Since then, the facility has helped several women transition into more permanent housing [6]. The CEO of the Poverello House, Zack Darrah, has been instrumental in the establishment and growth of Naomi's House [7].
Ivonne Der Torosian, with St. Agnes, has emphasised the importance of bridging the gap for Naomi's House [1]. The expansion plans, which include the community garden and medical clinic, are a testament to this commitment. The garden will provide a space for residents to grow fresh produce, while the medical clinic will offer on-site healthcare services.
These additions are part of Naomi's House's mission to end homelessness for women in the Fresno community, one woman at a time [1]. By offering a safe space, essential resources, and a pathway to permanent housing, Naomi's House continues to make a significant difference in the lives of vulnerable women in Fresno.
