DS Smith facilitates the transport of salad and herb goods using fibre-based, user-friendly packing containers.
DS Smith, a leading sustainable packaging company, has been making waves in the industry with its latest collaborative projects. One such collaboration is with Famifarm Oy, a Finnish company specialising in the production and distribution of salads and herbs.
The partnership has resulted in the creation of a new fibre-based transport box, designed to replace traditional plastic shrink film. This eco-friendly alternative offers a self-contained solution that is versatile and suitable for both large and small retail and grocery environments.
The Tape Back boxes, as they are called, are designed with an ergonomic hatch mechanism that makes unpacking four times faster than previous solutions. They feature a locking mechanism in their crush lock or auto-lock bottom design and are sealed with 'easy-to-peel' adhesive strips. After use, the boxes can be re-folded for reuse or recycling.
Jussi Loimusalo, CEO of Famifarm Oy, praised the new transport box, stating that it saves a lot of time for retail employees. He added that DS Smith demonstrated an in-depth understanding of Famifarm's operations during the joint product development process.
In another collaboration, DS Smith partnered with Krones to develop a packaging solution for fresh products. This solution, designed for an automated packaging line, aims to enhance the business of retail stores and outlets. The packaging solution protects fresh products as before, but now speeds up unpacking and makes the process easier.
DS Smith's commitment to sustainability and transparency has not gone unnoticed. The company was recently nominated for a Sustainability Award under the Commercialized Climate category.
In another interesting collaboration, Aagard and Energizer have joined forces to develop a one-piece, retail-ready case for use in transit and on the shelf. Meanwhile, DS Smith collaborated with Minerva S.A. to create recyclable, resealable Tape Back boxes for shipping luxury and ready-to-wear apparel and homewear.
Jyrki Petrelius, Cluster Design creative specialist at DS Smith, added that the packaging solutions were developed with a focus on long-term cooperation. It seems that DS Smith is not only delivering innovative packaging solutions but also fostering strong partnerships in the process.
In the transportation of Famifarm's products, Kespro, a Finnish logistics company, plays a crucial role. The company ensures that the fresh produce reaches Finnish supermarkets and food retailers in pristine condition.
With these collaborations, DS Smith continues to redefine the packaging industry, offering solutions that are not only sustainable but also efficient and user-friendly. The company's focus on transparency, sustainability, and reliability has earned it the respect and admiration of its partners and the industry at large.
