Dusseldorf pioneers research into the prospective evolution of the local lake
News Article: Shaping the Future of Unterbacher See and Its Surroundings
Tourism experts have embarked on a mission to create a concept study for the Unterbacher See and its surroundings, aiming to develop a sustainable and long-term viable guiding principle for its future development. The process involves extensive public participation, with the aim of making the popular recreational area even more attractive and user-friendly.
Recent citizen workshops held at the Unterbacher See administrative building have provided valuable insights into the popular features and desired improvements of the area. The natural scenery and lake environment, walking and biking trails, outdoor activities, and green spaces are highly appreciated, but improvements in maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, and facilities are sought after.
The workshops, led by a team consisting of Frank Pflüger, Jochen Kral, Benjamin Zwack, Karsten Palme, Tina Hörmann, and Silvia Beretta, also delved deeper into the details and suggested a better infrastructure for the lake. The concept should take into account both ecological and economic aspects, with an emphasis on environmental protection measures and improved safety measures.
The project team has analysed the Unterbacher See, its offerings, and prerequisites, and has identified the need for more diverse and modern leisure and sports facilities, additional seating areas, shelters, and restrooms, and expanded cultural and community event programming. The workshops also highlighted the importance of communication among lake residents and with the outside world, with immediate action being taken to address communication issues, and other improvements requiring lead time before implementation can begin.
The association's general assembly will decide which parts of the concept study will be transferred into a planning procedure. The workshops aimed to contribute to the future orientation of the Unterbacher See recreational area, involving all those affected, including interest groups and users located at the lake, the Unterbacher See association, and political decision-makers from Düsseldorf, Hilden, and Erkrath.
The final concept study for the development of Unterbacher See and its surroundings will be presented in September, with the approval procedures following before any changes will occur at the U-See. The goal is to create a sustainable and long-lasting plan that will benefit both the local community and visitors for years to come.
The workshops involving Frank Pflüger, Jochen Kral, Benjamin Zwack, Karsten Palme, Tina Hörmann, and Silvia Beretta for the future development of Unterbacher See and its surroundings focus on enhancing the area's home-and-garden elements, such as adding modern leisure and sports facilities, additional seating areas, shelters, and restrooms. Further, they aim to improve outdoor-living experiences by addressing communication issues, ecological protection measures, and safety to create an attractive and user-friendly lifestyle destination for the local community and visitors.
