In a recent council meeting, the Free Voters' Association (FWG) put forth a motion to investigate the feasibility of installing a swimming platform at the Murnau Bay bathing area. The proposal, which was unanimously agreed upon by the market council, comes amidst growing interest in improving facilities for swimmers at the popular lakeside spot.

According to Welf Probst, a member of the FWG, the old swimming platforms, now referred to as rescue platforms, are still present at the location. These platforms could potentially be repurposed for the new swimming platform, reducing costs and expediting the installation process.

Market Master Klaus Tworek proposed a thorough investigation into traffic safety, provided a swimming platform is desired. The cost of a jetty is estimated to be manageable, as long as no giant rescue island is installed. Manlik, another council member, suggested considering the installation of jetties in addition to swimming platforms.

However, it's important to note that installing swimming platforms and jetties at lakes, especially without official supervision or formal management, involves significant legal and safety considerations. In Germany, such installations typically require approval from environmental and local authorities due to water protection laws and safety regulations.

Costs can vary depending on the size, materials, and extent of the installation, but they often include construction expenses, ongoing maintenance, and compliance with safety standards. Liability issues must also be considered, as installing facilities in unsupervised areas can increase risks of drowning or accidents.

Legal considerations typically include securing permits from local or regional environmental agencies, adhering to water protection and public safety regulations, obtaining liability insurance, and complying with building codes and sometimes local zoning laws.

Wolfgang Küpper, another member of the OEDP/Citizen Forum, raised concerns about traffic safety. The cost of the swimming platform, ideally, would also be small, according to Welf Probst, who sees such a platform as a small attraction. Manlik estimated the cost of a jetty at around ten euros per square meter at the castle administration.

The FWG motion suggests that a minimum of bathing character can be maintained despite the lack of bathing supervision by installing a swimming platform. It's worth mentioning that the swimming platform was previously removed due to the requirements of the German Bathing Association, as there was no official bathing supervision at the Murnau beach bath.

Dr. Julia Stewens, who chaired the meeting in the absence of Mayor Rolf Beuting, emphasised the need for thorough investigation and compliance with all legal requirements before making any decisions. The investigation into the installation of jetties and swimming platforms at the Murnau Bay bathing area is now underway.

Home-and-garden enthusiasts might envision a makeover for the Murnau Bay bathing area, incorporating potential outdoor-living spaces alongside the proposed swimming platform, enhancing the overall lifestyle experience for visitors. As the feasibility of such installations is investigated, it's crucial to consider all legal, safety, and financial aspects to ensure compliance with environmental, public safety, and zoning regulations.
