Blueprint for Exploring Love's complexities - a vibrant, multifaceted exhibition at Universum® Bremen opens on June 7, 2025.
Prepare to delve into the intricacies of love, as the Universum® Bremen unveils its captivating new exhibition titled "Love Unveiled". Seven interactive zones – brimming with exhibits, digital stations, artifacts, installations, and photo series – invite you to ponder and share your unique perspectives on love.
The elusive nature of love's definition is evident, considering that no all-encompassing theory of love has been established. This thought-provoking question is addressed across various disciplines, from philosophy and sociology to psychology and neuroscience. To kick-start your journey, eight experts from various fields share their personal insights in a video station at the exhibition's outset.
The exhibition's designated spaces tell evocative love stories through stories submitted by Universum® guests, such as a mug reminding someone of cherished breakfasts with grandma or angel wings sewn from a wedding dress. Emotional experiences of falling in and out of love are also captured in another multimedia station.
In "Foundations of Love: Bonding", you'll find Katja Kemnitz's photo series, "Unloved", showcasing how cherished childhood teddy bears evolve over time. Other audio and visual stations shed light on early childhood attachment and its impact on later relationship dynamics. "Physical Desire and Sexuality" explores how sexuality is more than instinctual; it's a culmination of cultural, social, and individual learning processes.
Whether it's your first baby's hat or the mug that signals your favorite holiday breakfast, "Love's Artifacts" narrate heartwarming love stories. Love, simply put, is an emotion that transcends words, actions, and gifts. Receiving and giving are at its core. In the "Expressions of Affection: Proving Love" area, you can experience a touchless kiss using a shadow wall, and feel comforting rays under the "Compliments Shower". Many more zones await your discovery.
The exhibition is ideal for visitors aged 10 and up. It stems from the "De l'amour" exhibition, originating from the "Palais de la découverte" museum in Paris, in collaboration with the University of Geneva and the French research institute INED. The Universum® team has enriched and redesigned the exhibition specifically for Bremen with interactive exhibits, objects, specimens, and photo series.
In addition to the main exhibition, you can look forward to various educational programs for school groups and Science Slams.
