Expanded play area, novel exploration route: development at Burgk Castle
In the heart of Freital, Germany, a historic transformation is underway at Burgk Castle. The Free State is funding a comprehensive renovation project, with an estimated cost of approximately 580,000 euros, that will see the creation of a new 2.6-kilometer-long adventure trail and the redesign of the "Burgkania" playground.
The theme of this exciting new adventure trail, titled "In Search of Black Gold," will take visitors on a captivating journey through the castle grounds. The trail, set to open by the end of 2023, will start from the castle and wind its way through a wildflower meadow, offering new information boards and seating areas along the way.
Simultaneously, the "Burgkania" playground will be renewed and expanded. Existing play equipment will be refurbished, and the playground will offer more space for families to enjoy. However, it's important to note that the playground will be fully closed during the works.
The city of Freital is committed to making Burgk Castle more family-friendly, and this renovation project is a significant step towards that goal. The completion of the project is expected by 2026, as part of a larger, 15-million-euro renovation plan for the castle.
Work on the new adventure trail is scheduled to begin on October 5, and the anticipation among locals and visitors alike is palpable. This renovation promises to breathe new life into Burgk Castle, offering a unique and engaging experience for all who visit.
The new adventure trail at Burgk Castle, "In Search of Black Gold," will cater to both adults and children looking for an immersive outdoor-living experience. With the completion of this trail, home-and-garden spaces within the castle grounds will also undergo renovation and expansion, providing families with a revitalized playground and additional seating areas.
