Expenses of 200,000 euros allocated by the city council for refurbishment of the playground on Zonser Street.
The playground located on Zonser Straße is set for a significant renovation in the first half of 2026, with a total investment of over 200,000 euros by the city administration. The renovation aims to create a place shaped by the children themselves, a space where children can recognize themselves.
Mayor Erik Lierenfeld emphasised that the playground is designed by children for children, with the design inspired by the ideas from an "Ideas Workshop" held at the Erich-Kästner Elementary School. Around 40 children participated in the workshop, contributing their suggestions for the new play area.
The existing zip line will be retained in the renovated playground, while new additions will include swings for toddlers and schoolchildren, a sand play area with playhouses, and a lawn area for relaxation. Modern movement offerings, such as a climbing and sliding combination, a motor skills path, a bird's nest swing, and a spinning stand carousel, are also planned for the new play area.
Benches, a seating group, and an area for adults to linger will be added to the playground, ensuring that parents and guardians have a comfortable space to relax while their children play. New trees will be planted, and existing tree stock will be preserved during the renovation, maintaining the playground's green and natural ambience.
The entrance area of the playground will also undergo renovation, enhancing the overall appearance and accessibility of the playground. Preliminary planning for the renovation, including tendering and commissioning of a construction company, is expected to be completed this year.
The renovated playground at Zonser Straße is set to be a unique and exciting news for children, offering a wide range of play and relaxation areas. It's a testament to the city's commitment to creating safe and enjoyable environments for children to play and grow.
