Faculty and staff artists from various institutions selected to exhibit their artwork at the Everson Museum of Art this autumn, under the banner 'Creating on Personal Time'.
This year marks a significant milestone for Syracuse University's 'On My Own Time' program, as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. Spearheaded by CNY Arts, this programme has been a cherished part of the university's culture since its inception in 1972.
The annual exhibition, held this year at Syracuse University’s Marshall Square Mall, showcased a diverse range of artwork from faculty and staff members. This year's submission included drawing, photography, painting, sculpture, glasswork, jewelry making, printmaking, fiber art, computer art, and collage/assemblage. The on-campus exhibition, displayed in Hendricks Chapel, comprised 34 pieces of art from 17 artists.
Six artists from this year's on-campus exhibition were selected to display their art at the 'On My Own Time' finale exhibition at the Everson Museum of Art. Among the winners were Shikha Nangia, whose artwork titled 'See How Brain Protects Itself from Intruders' was captured in a photograph by Randy Pellis. Other selected artists include Margaret Voss with her piece 'A Rococo Homage', Jenny Saluti with her piece 'Westie Holiday Surface Design', and Austine Emifoniye, Marie Luther, and Margaret Butler, who won the People's Choice Award for her artwork 'Birds in Winter'.
Angela Ryan, a photographer, captured the moments of these artists with their artwork. She took photos of Margaret Butler with her piece 'Birds in Winter', Marie Luther with her piece 'Two Water Lilies', Shikha Nangia with her artwork, Jenny Saluti with her piece 'Westie Holiday Surface Design', and Margaret Voss with her piece 'A Rococo Homage'. Additionally, Angela Ryan photographed Molly Cavanaugh, Jesse Darling, Christian Day, Lisa Kennedy, John Olson, Christina Papaleo, Scott Samson, Christine Signy, Joseph Stoll, Ronald Thiele, and Lynn Wilcox with their artwork.
Over the years, more than 1,800 faculty and staff from Syracuse University have exhibited their art in 'On My Own Time'. The university has participated in this programme every year since 1982.
The entire campus community is invited to visit the Everson Museum this fall to see the artwork of the University's winners and other local organizations on display. More information about the 'On My Own Time' exhibition can be found on the CNY Arts website.
