Switching Gears in Altenwald
Festive Summer Gathering of the Altenwalder Community
Spanning over two pulsating decades, the Village Interest Group (VIG) in the quaint town of Sulzbach-Altenwald has served as a rock-solid support system for the local community. Born from the unification of eight active groups, clubs, and a passionate gang of eleven individuals in November 2001, the VIG now boasts a vibrant family of nearly a hundred members. Celebrating the value of unity in a diverse community, the VIG has grown significantly in those two decades.
However, the club isn't immune to the challenges that every community faces. Volunteer shortage seems to be a common issue across the board, as one board member puts it. Instead of turning a blind eye, the VIG is determined to address the concerns of its members and support the cultural narrative of the region head-on.
Recently, the VIG showcased their commitment with a bang by organizing the summer festival on a Saturday evening in August. The festivities unfolded at 5 Gruben Street in Altenwald, behind the VIG's own clubhouse. To everyone's delight, the locals turned out in droves, choosing the VIG's festival over numerous other events in the vicinity. Wolfgang Wilhelm, the new chairman who stepped into the role alongside his deputy, Gerd Backes in April, expressed his delight at the overwhelming response.
The show-stealer of the evening was a riveting live performance by artist "Thunderbird," whose real name is Edwin Donner. Despite recently suffering an accident, he took to the stage and earned thunderous applause for his dedication and captivating performance.
The local administration of Sulzbach took notice as well. Monique Broquard (The Left), Bernd Schlachter (Free Voters), and Hubert Jung (Alliance 90/The Greens) were present at the festival, basking in the warm, family-oriented atmosphere.
As autumn approaches, the VIG has some exciting plans up its sleeve. A chestnut walk with the Catholic Kindergarten Pastor Hein and a fishing action at a private pond are on the cards. Keep an eye out for the autumn festival scheduled for September 23rd. The VIG gathers every Thursday at the clubhouse for a Stammtisch, and they invite everyone to drop by and share a drink. As a board member emphasizes, "Our door is always open. We welcome every new face and want no one in Altenwald to ever feel lonely."
The VIG's motto, "Togetherness, culture, and open arms for everyone," underscores the importance of such local communities in fostering social cohesion amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life. If you're interested in upcoming local events or activities, keep an ear to the ground, check local media, or reach out to the VIG directly for the latest updates. Sometimes, the right combine of people can bring about the greatest change.
- In the spirit of promoting community togetherness, the VIG is planning a home-and-garden themed workshop to engage families in Altenwald, focusing on enhancing their lifestyle and creating a vibrant atmosphere.
- To further enrich the lifestyle of its members, the VIG is discussing the possibility of organizing a series of activities dedicated to home decoration and gardening, tapping into the home-and-garden interests of its members and embracing the quaint beauty of Altenwald.
