Forest kindergarten established on Tiergarten Nürnberg grounds
Nuremberg, Germany - The city of Nuremberg is set to introduce an innovative addition to its childcare offerings with the opening of a forest kindergarten at the Schmausenbuck, adjacent to the Nuremberg Zoo, in September 2025.
The forest kindergarten, designed for children aged three to school entry, combines nature experiences, environmental education, and pedagogical quality. It offers a unique opportunity for young learners to immerse themselves in the natural world, observing plants and animals in their habitat from an early age.
Interested families can get a glimpse of what the forest kindergarten has to offer on Wednesday, July 2nd, at 5 pm, at the forest kindergarten premises at Schmausenbuckstraße 95. The management team will present the concept of the forest kindergarten, and more insights into the pedagogical offer and kindergarten life can be found on Instagram under @kita.nuernberg.
The forest kindergarten will accommodate up to 22 girls and boys, and two modern mobile classrooms have been set up as retreats, protective spaces, and meeting points. Life and learning in the forest kindergarten primarily take place outdoors, with the children's daily routine including activities such as playing in the undergrowth, observing animals, and collecting leaves and natural materials.
The children in the forest kindergarten will experience the forest and surrounding green spaces as a diverse learning and adventure area, with the new climate trail in the city connecting the forest kindergarten and the zoo, offering a zoopedagogical experience. The forest kindergarten also has a close cooperation with the zoo, providing additional insights into flora and fauna.
Registration for the forest kindergarten is possible until Saturday, July 5th, via the KitaPortal. For the most accurate, up-to-date details on opening dates and registration procedures, we recommend visiting the official Nuremberg Zoo website, calling their customer service or education department, or checking local Nuremberg city or family service portals. These sources usually provide application forms, age requirements, session start dates, and any necessary documentation for enrollment.
Christian Rester, head of the municipal kindergarten facilities, expressed his pleasure with the new forest kindergarten offer, stating, "This allows children to experience plants and animals in their natural habitat from a young age." Jörg Beckmann, the deputy director and biological director of the zoo, also praised the collaboration, saying, "The forest kindergarten at the Nuremberg Zoo is an innovative addition to our city's childcare offerings."
