Gardener Apprentice Hilke Stevens Returns from 'Flower Island' Exchange
Hilke Stevens, a gardener apprentice from Nordhorn, recently returned from a unique experience. She spent nearly two weeks working at Lake Mainau, known as the 'Flower Island', as part of an apprentice exchange. Stevens, the first apprentice from Nordhorn's municipal nursery to take part in such an exchange, documented her experiences. She maintained a botanical garden with over 1200 rose varieties, giant sequoias, and an Italian flower water staircase. The exchange allowed her to learn about different plants and care measures, enriching her training experience. Upon her return, she submitted her report to her trainer, Reinhold Schnieders. Stevens' exchange at Lake Mainau, a 45-hectare tourist spot on the edge of Lake Constance, provided valuable insights into various plants and gardening techniques. Her report, submitted to Schnieders, reflects her growth and the benefits of such exchange programs for apprentices.
