Guest of the President of the Federal Republic: Mr. Friedrich Berlemann

In a celebration of voluntary commitment and civic engagement, Friedrich R. Berlemann, the former chairman of Krefeld Zoo Friends e.V., has been invited to the Citizens' Festival at Schloss Bellevue in Berlin. The event, titled "A Matter of Honor - I'm In," is hosted by the Federal President and aims to honour guests who have made significant contributions to a vibrant civil society.

Berlemann, who led Krefeld Zoo Friends e.V. for 16 years, has been invited in recognition of his great commitment to the organisation. The Krefeld Zoo Friends e.V., the support association of the Krefeld Zoo, boasts around 6,500 members, yet only has 1.5 full-time employees in the business office, highlighting the crucial role of volunteers.

The volunteers of Krefeld Zoo Friends e.V. work tirelessly, contributing many unpaid hours each week. Their roles are diverse, ranging from manning the lottery booth and information house, to serving on the board and organising events. Their work is pivotal in ensuring the survival of the zoo, as well as securing donations for modernization and new construction, and even overseeing new tree plantings.

Berlemann's successor, Yvonne Brandt, and numerous active volunteers are delighted by his invitation. Brandt, the new president of Krefeld Zoo Friends e.V., takes over from Berlemann, who is also the honorary president of the Marketing Club Krefeld.

The Krefeld Zoo Friends e.V. is not the only organisation that relies on voluntary work. Across Germany, countless individuals work gladly for "animalistically good causes," as well as other charities and community projects. Without such voluntary work, much in our society would not be possible or affordable.

The Citizens' Festival, therefore, serves not only as a celebration of individual commitment but also as a call to action, promoting voluntary civic engagement and the spirit of community service.
