Gunmen in Hubbelrath, Dusseldorf, erect a fresh cross, yet abstain from firing bolt drinks in celebration.
Festive Sunday in Hubbelrath
The crackle of birdsong and the melodies of "Frohsinn Norf" instruments danced through the air at St. Cecilia's pleasant garden service on Sunday morning (the 4th). The event marked the onset of the annual shooting festival, and with Dr. Wolfgang Reuter, the President, gracing the occasion, the celebration flowed smoothly. A new cross illuminated the village street, replacing the old one stolen by metal thieves in February 2022.

The shooters honored the replacement of the stolen cross, with Erwin Schierle supporting the funding and the local fire brigade ensuring a theft-proof anchorage.
A vibrant display of festivity
Apart from the new cross, this year's Hubbelrath shooting festival unfolded under the backdrop of flags, banners, and garlands festooning the village. Florian Alberty and Gut Bruchhausen generously donated the splashy heralds of the shooters.
A solemn tribute
However, something seemed amiss - or not - during the traditional wreath-laying at the cemetery and the marching parade. This time, there were no boellerschüsse, a noisy custom that was not met with regret by some visitors, as they found it overpowering. The absence of the shots was not due to a lack of permission but to the need to rebuild the youth shooting department. The previous members have moved on, passing the age limitation of 25 and joining the St. Cecilia Company.
The grand finale
The highlight and conclusion of King Ulli Schmidtke and Queen Steffi Richter's term of office were the shooting festival events. They warmly welcomed numerous guests from friendly shooting clubs and politics, who joined them to review the parade at the fire station. Andreas Lanzmich, a past shooting king during the corona period, was present, seemingly relishing his time again since he performed exceptionally in the king's shot on Saturday, winning the plate in the first shot. Together with Petra Perpet, they will embark on the new shooting year as the emperor couple.
A charming march through the village
It's always a spectacle to witness the shooters parading through the festively adorned village, and Hubbelrath's 2022 shooting festival was no exception.
