Hamburg Photographer's 'Workers of the Sea' Book Captures Global Livelihoods Under Threat
Hamburg-based photographer Rolf Nobel presents 'Workers of the Sea', a book capturing people from four continents whose livelihoods face growing threats. Nobel, who grew up in Hamburg and was inspired by his father's tales and matchboxes from sailors, has professionally visited nearly 50 countries to capture these stories.
Nobel's work includes images of seaweed collectors, crab fishermen, and lighthouse keepers, among others. Despite his extensive travels, specific countries where he worked as a professional photographer remain unknown.
The photographer's work is featured in Hinz&Kunzt, a magazine sold by vendors on Hamburg's streets. These vendors are central to the project, making the magazine accessible to all. For those living abroad, a print subscription is available.
Rolf Nobel's 'Workers of the Sea' offers a glimpse into the lives of those whose livelihoods depend on the sea. The book is a result of Nobel's extensive travels and his passion for capturing the stories of 'workers of the sea'. To access more of his work, one can purchase Hinz&Kunzt from vendors in Hamburg or subscribe to the print edition from anywhere in the world.
