Hard-to-find books from the past
The City of Landshut is set to host the annual 'Auserlesen' Youth Book Award on Thursday, September 25, at 6:30 PM, at the City Library on Weilerstraße. This prestigious event, organised in collaboration with schools and libraries, aims to open young people's access to literature and promote reading.
The award ceremony is a highlight of the city's cultural calendar, and this year, it promises to be even more exciting as the youth will present the winning books themselves. The books being awarded are not mandatory reading or bestsellers, but rather, the top three youth books from the 2024 new releases that have captured the imagination of Landshut's teenagers.
The Youth Reading Club, a part of the City Library, has been instrumental in the selection process. The Club, which has been part of the German Youth Literature Prize jury from 2003 to 2008 and has been again since 2023, has spent months reading, discussing, and evaluating the books to arrive at the final selection.

The award ceremony will be followed by a champagne reception, offering attendees a chance to mingle and discuss the books.
Unfortunately, there are no specific public records or sources listing the three youth books that excited teenagers most in Landshut in 2024. However, the event invites students and anyone interested to find out which youth books Landshut's youth were most excited about in 2025.
The project's patron is Mayor Alexander Putz, who has shown his support for the initiative. The former patron of the project was author and translator Mirjam Pressler.
