Nizhny Novgorod, with over 3,600 cultural heritage sites, has seen significant transformation in preserving and integrating its historical architecture into modern life. The regional government actively supports investors in restoring these sites for contemporary use.
Metropolitan Georgy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas welcomed the participants, highlighting local initiatives to protect and utilise historical monuments. President Vladimir Putin has set the task of moving away from merely formal protection towards meaningful and modern utilisation of these sites.
The two-day congress is discussing current issues in legislation changes and supporting investors in restoring historically valuable buildings. Senator Olga Shchetinina noted that adapting historical buildings for modern use can increase interest in local history among young people.
The annual All-Russian Congress of Heritage Protection Organizations is being held in Nizhny Novgorod for the first time, bringing together representatives from the Ministry of Culture, the Federation Council, and regional heritage protection organisations. The congress seeks to find ways to preserve and utilise Russia's rich historical heritage in the modern world.
