Historic Records Reveal: Marshall Plan Settlement in Bochum-Gerthe City
On September 25, at 7 PM, the Bochum Centre for Urban History will screen a fascinating 30-minute film about the Marshall Plan settlement in Bochum-Gerthe. This black-and-white production, created by Bochum Home Studios in 1952, offers a unique insight into the housing shortages faced by coal mining employees and their families after World War II.
The screening will take place at the city archive's film theatre, located at Wittener Straße 47. Admission to the film screening is free, and visitors can use the P4 parking lot in Akademiestraße (access via Wittener Straße) for free parking.
If you wish to attend, registrations can be made on Tuesdays to Fridays from 10 AM to 6 PM and on weekends from 11 AM to 5 PM. You can also register by email at [email protected] or by phone at 0234 / 910 - 95 10.
The film focuses on the "Hiltroper Heide" settlement, a housing development built with funding from the American Marshall Plan. The houses of this settlement were designed to address the urgent need for housing in the aftermath of World War II, and the film provides a fascinating glimpse into the construction process and the lives of the families who moved into these homes.
This screening is a rare opportunity to delve into Bochum's history and understand the challenges faced by its residents during the post-war period. So, mark your calendars for September 25, and join us at the Bochum Centre for Urban History for an evening of historical insight and reflection.
