Illegal alcohol stores in Kuban should be abolished, according to Kondratyev's statement.
Crackdown on Illegal Alcohol Trade in Kuban, Russia
In the picturesque wine-making and resort region of Kuban, Russia, authorities have been vigilant in their efforts to combat the illegal trade of alcohol. Over the past year, a significant number of cases have been detected and prevented, particularly in the popular resort city of Sochi.
Since the beginning of the year, 360 cases of illegal alcohol trading have been thwarted in Sochi alone. The authorities have also seized over 39,000 liters of illegal alcohol in the Temryuk District, and almost 44,000 liters of surrogate and counterfeit products without a license and labeling have been taken from illegal circulation in Sochi.
The seized samples indicate that the liquid contains 10% ethyl alcohol, a potentially dangerous level. Regrettably, the number of victims of counterfeit alcohol poisoning in Sochi has risen to 15, with at least ten fatalities.
To address this issue, Governor Veniamin Kondratyev has discussed this matter with municipal heads and tasked them with being the first to know about sales points and eliminating them. He emphasised that a systematic approach is the only way to save lives.
In an effort to regulate the sale of alcohol, the fee for issuing or extending a license for the retail sale of alcohol has increased in urban areas to 65,000 rubles per trade or catering object, and in rural areas to 20,000 rubles, starting September 1.
While the region has been successful in increasing alcohol production by 11% and hosting 45 wine fairs last year, with 170 alcohol brands receiving the "Made in Kuban" designation, the focus remains on ensuring the safety and authenticity of these products.
Authorities in Kuban are also taking other common measures to address the issue of illegal alcohol trade and counterfeit alcohol poisoning. These include increased law enforcement actions targeting illegal production and distribution, public health campaigns to raise awareness about the dangers of consuming unregulated alcohol, stricter regulations and inspections of licensed alcohol producers and sellers, and the use of tracking and authentication technologies on legal alcohol products to prevent counterfeiting.
Collaboration between regional authorities, customs, and police is also crucial in intercepting illegal shipments. While specific measures being taken in the Krasnodar region may not have been detailed in the latest reports, it is clear that the authorities are committed to ensuring the safety and integrity of the alcohol industry in Kuban.
