Increasing Energy Efficiency through Solar Panel Installation by RACV
Green Couple Embraces Solar Energy in Aireys Inlet
Tamsin O'Neill and Tom Bodycomb, the founders of Green Magazine, have taken a significant step towards sustainable living by installing a solar energy system in their property in Aireys Inlet, Victoria. The energy-efficient home now boasts solar panels, a solar battery, and an electric vehicle (EV) charger, reducing reliance on grid electricity and lowering energy costs.
The solar panel system, consisting of 20 x Trina Vertex S 425W panels, generates renewable electricity on-site. This clean energy powers the home and charges the EV through the dedicated Zappi 7kW tethered charger. Excess energy produced during the day is stored in the 11kWh BYD HVM 11.04kWh Battery Stack for use during nighttime or low-sunlight periods, ensuring energy independence and minimising the need to draw power from the grid.
The solar energy solution, with an 8.5kW capacity, is expected to produce approximately 10,574kWh of electricity annually. This production is estimated to avoid 11.3 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, making a significant contribution to the fight against climate change.
The property, a not-quite-hectare of intact open woodland with views to the north and west, benefits from its gently sloping topography, which is open to winter sun and protected from fierce southerlies and some northerlies.
The installation of the solar system was carried out by RACV Solar. Tom and Tamsin chose RACV Solar due to their reputation for quality and expertise in solar energy solutions. In addition to the solar panels, RACV Solar installed a Fronius Primo GEN24 6kW Hybrid inverter and an 11kWh BYD battery stack for energy storage.
Tom Bodycomb, homeowner and Publisher of Green Magazine, expressed that the solar system has exceeded their expectations, particularly in the winter months. The annual savings from the solar energy system are approximately $1,743, making it a financially viable and environmentally friendly choice for the couple.
