India Boosts Agriculture, Military Efficiency with New Loan Scheme and Command Rules

The Indian government has taken significant steps to boost agriculture and military efficiency. Farmers will continue to benefit from low-interest loans, while the military's command structure has been bolstered with new rules.

The Union Cabinet has extended the Modified Interest Subvention Scheme (MISS) for the 2025-26 financial year. This scheme ensures farmers get short-term crop loans at just 4% interest through the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) platform. Additionally, a 1.5% interest subvention is provided to banks under this scheme. This makes credit more affordable for farmers, supporting the government's goal of doubling farmers' income.

In the military sphere, the Rules formulated under the Inter-Services Organisations (Command, Control and Discipline) Act 2023 have been notified and will come into effect from May 27, 2025. These rules empower the heads of joint inter-service organisations (ISOs) to exercise unified command, control, and discipline over all personnel, regardless of their original service affiliation. This is expected to improve integration, operational efficiency, and jointness within the military. The notification of these rules makes the Act fully operational, enabling the expeditious disposal of disciplinary cases and avoiding duplication of proceedings.

The government's commitment to supporting farmers and strengthening the military is evident in these recent decisions. Farmers can now access affordable credit, while the military's command structure has been enhanced to improve operational efficiency.
