Inside Unveils: Humboldt Forum's Inner Spaces

The Humboldt Forum and Schlueterhof in Berlin have recently undergone significant transformations, unveiling new public spaces and amenities for visitors to enjoy.

The Schlueterhof, a historic courtyard, has been supplemented by a modern facade design, and now offers access to the Schlossforum - a passage connecting the Lustgarten with the Schlossplatz. Another passage links the Schlueterhof with the uncovered inner courtyards of the Humboldt Forum.

Two of these inner courtyards are now open to the public, with the third, covered inner courtyard set to serve as the future central entrance to the museum areas. This third courtyard is strongly connected to the reconstructed former Eosander portal. The creation of these inner courtyards has resulted in significant public spaces, consistent with the concept of an "open castle".

The new Berlin Castle houses three courtyards designed as "theater piazzas". In the Schlueterhof and the passage, culinary offerings are already available, including a bistro and a restaurant with outdoor seating.

In the Schlossforum passage, architect Renzo Piano has opted for predominantly modern wall cladding, with only the entrances and exits modeled after historical examples. The first museum shop at the Humboldt Forum is also now open.

The Humboldt Forum in Berlin's cultural center was unexpectedly opened to the public on Wednesday. The decision to reveal the uncovered inner courtyards was made by the Stiftung Humboldt Forum (Humboldt Forum Foundation). They continue to coordinate closely with the police and local partners to ensure the area remains safe, open, and attractive.

Other ongoing construction in the castle area includes the completion of the U-Bahn station Museumsinsel. A river bath is also planned for the Museumsinsel in the near future. The third inner courtyard, the foyer, will be opened for museum visitors later this year.

Various events are planned for the Schlueterhof in the future, making it an exciting destination for both locals and tourists alike. The open spaces and amenities of the Schlueterhof and the Humboldt Forum promise to enrich Berlin's cultural landscape, offering new opportunities for exploration and enjoyment.
