SaloneSatellite 2025 Embraces 'New Craftsmanship' in Milan

SaloneSatellite 2025, the renowned exhibition for young designers, returns for its 26th edition during Milan Design Week. Organised by Marva Griffin Wilshire, this year's event will be held from 8th to 13th April 2025, showcasing a new design competition focusing on small, functional objects such as hooks.

The theme for SaloneSatellite 2025 is 'New Craftsmanship: A New World', highlighting the event's emphasis on meticulous craftsmanship and innovative design. This focus on small yet significant design elements underscores the importance of attention to detail and the value of functional, well-designed objects.

The organisers created the Artwood Academy as a permanent venue to showcase a rich archive of products designed by past participants. This year, the Artwood Academy will be part of SaloneSatellite 2025, providing visitors with a glimpse into the talented designers who have graced the event in the past.

SaloneSatellite's mission remains the same: to help young designers at the start of their careers and connect them with industry insiders. Over the years, the exhibition has nurtured notable talents such as Nendo, Sebastian Herkner, Ini Archibong, David Pompa, and Cristina Celestino.

In addition to the design competition, SaloneSatellite 2025 will feature craft workshops, offering visitors a unique opportunity to learn about the artisanal techniques behind the designs.

One of the highlights of this year's event is Rodolfo Agrella's exhibit, which combines Latin American ancestral textile crafts with contemporary design. Lani Adeoye, SaloneSatellite 2022 Prize Winner, will also curate 'Craft West Africa', featuring works from Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal.

SaloneSatellite 2025 is just one part of the Milan Design Week 2025. The collection of past SaloneSatellite products will also be displayed in Osaka during the Expo, showcasing the global reach and impact of this prestigious event.

At SaloneSatellite 2025, the artistic corner dedicated to past participants, Artwood Academy, will exhibit a wealth of thoughtfully crafted products from budding design talents. This focus on home-and-garden elements emphasizes the significance of intricate craftsmanship and contemporary design in one's lifestyle.

Craft West Africa, a curated collection by Lani Adeoye, a past SaloneSatellite prize winner, will be a fusion of African textile crafts with modern design, showcasing the harmonious blend of traditional roots and contemporary aesthetics in one's home-and-garden lifestyle.
