Calix Unveils SmartMDU: Revolutionising Wi-Fi Services for Multi-Family Housing
Calix, a leading provider of broadband communications access systems and software, has announced the launch of SmartMDU, a game-changing managed service designed specifically for multi-dwelling units (MDUs). This innovative solution is now available on the Calix Broadband Platform and is set to redefine the way service providers cater to the unique needs of MDU residents.
Shane Eleniak, Chief Product Officer at Calix, explains that SmartMDU is designed to simplify access, support, and operations for service providers. With this solution, they can offer cost-effective managed Wi-Fi services to any multi-family apartment building, ensuring a seamless and secure internet experience for residents and their guests.
SmartMDU supports a variety of network connection types, including fibre to the unit, structured Ethernet wiring, and can repurpose existing copper and coaxial cable. This versatility makes it an ideal choice for service providers serving MDUs, regardless of the property's infrastructure.
The award-winning features of Calix SmartHome are integrated into SmartMDU, providing residents with personalised experiences, network protection, content and security controls, and unique guest SSIDs for weekend visitors. Moreover, SmartMDU delivers personalised, private experiences for residents and their guests within their individual home units.
SmartMDU is part of the Calix SmartLife portfolio, which includes SmartTown, SmartBiz, and SmartHome. This portfolio enables service providers to quickly and seamlessly deliver tailored Wi-Fi services for different subscriber segments.
SmartMDU scales from apartment buildings with fewer than 10 units to multi-building complexes with hundreds of units, ensuring it can cater to properties of all sizes. It is designed to deliver secure and scalable Wi-Fi experiences across any type of property.
Calix began trials of SmartMDU earlier this year with customers serving the MDU market, and the response has been positive. ICS Advanced Technologies, which serves over 35,000 units, achieved 125% growth with an early version of SmartMDU. Matt Bueltel, the CEO of ICS, has praised the introduction of SmartMDU, stating that it will further streamline service delivery and drive continued growth.
The flexible managed Wi-Fi options offered by SmartMDU enhance the in-unit experience, provide Internet of Things (IoT) security features, support property-wide roaming, and allow day-use guest Wi-Fi in common areas.
