Join the 16km New Year's Eve Hike: Hamburg's Beloved Mettläufer-Event

On New Year's Eve, the Hamburg Ramblers' Association is organizing a 16-kilometer hike from Harburg to the St. Pauli landing stages. The event, known as the 'Mettläufer-Event' or 'Mettläuferwanderung', is a popular tradition in Hamburg. The hike starts at 10:05 AM at the Harburg Rathaus S-Bahn station, exit Neue Straße, and costs 6 euros per person. No refreshment stops are planned during the hike.

The Hamburg Ramblers' Association, the Dachverband of the Hamburg Wandervereine, leads the event. Participants can join as members or guests of the association. The hike covers various routes, including through Harburg, Wilhelmsburg, and along the Harburger Hafen. Traditionally, participants enjoy Mettwurstbrötchen and drinks along the way. For this year's event, registration is required by December 29th and can be done by phone. Those who register in advance will receive a pretzel and champagne, but they must bring their own glass. The hike will pass through Wilhelmsburg and the harbor, ending with a panoramic view of Hamburg at the Old Elbe Tunnel.

The Mettläufer-Event is a beloved Hamburg tradition that brings together wanderers from across the city. This year's hike, organized by the Hamburg Ramblers' Association, promises a scenic journey through Harburg, Wilhelmsburg, and the harbor, culminating in a stunning view of the city at the Old Elbe Tunnel. With a participation fee of just 6 euros, it's an affordable way to spend New Year's Eve in Hamburg.
