As the UK's leading active travel organisation, Sustrans is now recruiting a Head of New Developments. This role offers the opportunity to work on exciting, impactful projects that will stretch and empower the individual. The Head of New Developments will be responsible for leading efforts to embed active travel—walking, wheeling, and cycling—into new housing developments.
The key responsibilities of this role include leading influencing work targeting organisations involved in housing delivery to adopt measures that promote active travel in their developments. The successful candidate will develop and promote Sustrans’ offerings to partners by integrating existing infrastructure, behaviour change initiatives, and advisory services.
The Head of New Developments will build and manage a pipeline of funded projects with partners across public, private, and third sectors to increase opportunities for active travel in daily journeys. They will work closely with Sustrans’ Commercial team and subject experts to grow the organisation’s impact in new developments.
The role requires frequent meetings and site visits, particularly across the Midlands and South of England, although the role can be UK-wide. The successful candidate will act as a strategic, personable, and persuasive figure who can attract new stakeholders and secure local community engagement for sustainable active travel outcomes.
Sustrans offers a competitive package, including a salary of around £56,254 plus London weighting allowance for eligible employees. The role also includes enhanced maternity and paternity pay, 28 days leave per annum plus bank holidays for full-time working, a Group Personal Pension scheme with a contribution being matched by the organisation, and London Weighting Allowance of £4,530 for all those living within a London Borough.
