A Harmonious Blend of Tradition and Modernity: The Contemporary Cotswolds Home

Nestled in the picturesque Cotswolds, Oxfordshire, a stunning new home designed by NCA Architecture and adorned with the interior touch of Echlin, showcases a unique collaboration that marries local Cotswolds architectural influences with the elegance of European modern design aesthetics.

The home's design is a testament to the harmonious balance between tradition and modernity, a hallmark of NCA Architecture's work. The firm is renowned for creating homes that respect the natural and historic context of the Cotswolds while introducing sleek contemporary elements.

Echlin's interior design, on the other hand, complements this by sourcing pieces that reflect regional warmth and refined European minimalism, emphasizing quality materials, clean lines, and functional elegance. This is evident in the choice of furnishings from renowned brands like Cassina and Carl Hansen & Søn, known for their iconic modern furniture pieces and Scandinavian design heritage.

The living room, for instance, features a 'Marenco' sofa from Arflex and two 'Utrecht' chairs from Cassina, alongside a vintage Paolo Piva travertine coffee table. The ground-floor living room also boasts the Artemide 'Shogun' table lamp, adding a touch of contemporary sophistication.

The home's expansive patio, with its Mediterranean feel and multiple seating options, extends the living space outdoors. Large floor-to-ceiling glazed doors lead out to a terrace on the ground floor, creating a seamless transition between indoors and outdoors.

The home's open-plan layout spans two floors, with the kitchen and dining room serving as the family's main gathering place. An earthy color palette continues throughout these spaces, reflecting a warm and inviting atmosphere. Ten elegant walnut Carl Hansen & Søn 'T' chairs surround the dining table, while a bespoke grand oval travertine dining table from Momina Watton's Atelier 278 takes centre stage.

The primary bedroom upstairs is light and airy, with large windows overlooking the expansive garden and woodland surroundings. The room features a custom-made bed by Echlin with an exposed frame upholstered in green velvet mohair. Bedside tables in elm complete the serene atmosphere.

The clients, a family with three teenage children, desired a space that was welcoming, refined, and offered a peaceful atmosphere. Samuel Pye, Echlin's creative director, aimed to juxtapose wild organic textures and materials with contemporary lines and finishes, achieving a perfect balance between comfort and sophistication.

This unique collaboration between NCA Architecture and Echlin exemplifies a fusion of local vernacular with cutting-edge European design influences, creating interiors that are both comfortable and sophisticated, a fitting reflection of the Cotswolds' rich heritage and contemporary style.
