He sported a dapper grey morning suit with a black top hat, following the dress code for garden parties. But what really set the king's attire apart was a cream waistcoat paired with a light blue necktie that had decked out mini submarines—submarines, for heaven's sake! To spice up the summer social scene, two themed garden parties have been announced, including the "Education and Skills" fête. On May 16, Birgitte, the Duchess of Gloucester (78), will host the annual garden party of the Not Forgotten Association at the palace. This organization centers around providing entertainment, leisure, and recreational activities to former military personnel and those currently serving.
The garden party tradition dates back to the 1860s and offers the monarch a chance to thank outstanding community members for their contributions, honoring public service. More than 30,000 people are invited to attend the various garden events yearly, making these affairs absolutely explosive.
