Chillin' with the Kings and Queens: A Submarine-Themed Tie at the Educators' Bash

Last week, the "Education and Skills" garden party sailed into Buckingham Palace, celebrating the crème de la crème of the education sector. With the department for Education backing the event, 7,000 guests from the academic community gathered to mingle on the lush lawn. King Charles III (76) and Queen Camilla (77) extended a warm welcome to the crowd under the scorching summer sun, captured in an Instagram video as a heartfelt tribute to the "wonderful people who work in education".

A spicy detail caught the attention of eagle-eyed Daily Mail readers—King Charles’ eccentric ensemble. He sported a dapper grey morning suit with a black top hat, following the dress code for garden parties. But what really set the king's attire apart was a cream waistcoat paired with a light blue necktie that had decked out mini submarines—submarines, for heaven's sake! The peculiar accessory made a splash as guests posted pics of the event on social media.

Queen Camilla also looked radiant in a white mid-length dress with silver embroidery by Anna Valentine, topped off with a hat by Philip Treary and the diamond Jardine Star brooch of the late Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022), creating a fitting ensemble for the al fresco affair.

Garden Parties Galore

Buckingham Palace announced, as reported by Daily Express, that a grand total of three royal garden parties will be held this summer. The first bash took place on May 7 at Buckingham Palace, right in the heart of London. The second soiree is lined up for May 20 at the same swanky locale, with the third scheduled for July 1 at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, Scotland.

To spice up the summer social scene, two themed garden parties have been announced, including the "Education and Skills" fête. On May 16, Birgitte, the Duchess of Gloucester (78), will host the annual garden party of the Not Forgotten Association at the palace. This organization centers around providing entertainment, leisure, and recreational activities to former military personnel and those currently serving.

The garden party tradition dates back to the 1860s and offers the monarch a chance to thank outstanding community members for their contributions, honoring public service. More than 30,000 people are invited to attend the various garden events yearly, making these affairs absolutely explosive.

But hey, who said a garden party has to be ordinary? So, keep an eye out for the royal guests rocking their unique attire and creative neckties—you never know when you might spot a submarine swimming across the crystal-clear monarch waters!

I'm not going to be able to attend every garden party this summer as they are taking place at Buckingham Palace and the Palace of Holyroodhouse, however, I was intrigued by the unique fashion at the "Education and Skills" garden party. King Charles III's blue tie, adorned with mini submarines, certainly made a splash, while Queen Camilla looked radiant in her silver-embroidered dress.
