Museum's long-awaited café, closed since April, finally unveiled at The Frick Collection.
Step Inside the Dazzling Frick Café
Perched on the glamorous Upper East Side, the Frick Building from the Gilded Age, now a museum, invites you to unwind in its first café - the Westmoreland. After an impressive four-year refurbishment, the institution, brimming with restored reading rooms, the stunning Stephen A. Schwarzman Auditorium, and over 1,800 masterpieces, leaves no stone unturned for captivating art lovers.
The extravagant 50-seat restaurant is the brainchild of Selldorf Architects and tastefully designed by Bryan O'Sullivan Studio (BOSS). A bespoke wall painting by Darren Waterston adds the finishing touch, transporting you to a bygone era of opulence.
Excitement bubbles as Axel Rüger, director of the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Foundation, proclaims, "While we celebrate the grand reopening of the Frick, we're thrilled to unveil the museum's first café, a space that puts the institution firmly in the 21st century, providing visitors and members a cozy spot to delve into the collection over scrumptious eats and drinks."
A Culinary Delight Awaits
Catered by Union Square Events, guided by Danny Meyer, the food focuses on seasonal, top-notch products sourced from local farms and purveyors[1]. Mouthwatering dishes such as soups, salads, pasta, and delectable baked goods are on offer, so don't hold back!
"The Westmoreland offers a warm, personal service to create an intimate and refined experience" says Nickolas Martinez, Vice President of Culinary Operations at USE. "Each dish has been carefully crafted, showcasing a standalone masterpiece on your plate."
The newly opened second-floor space is only the beginning. In a few weeks, on June 18, the Ronald S. Lauder Exhibition Galleries will open, a series of rooms dedicated to showcasing captivating temporary exhibitions that perfectly complement the museum's permanent collections[2]. Now there's even more to explore as you savor your meal!
Reservations for the grand opening day can be made on the café's website.
It has been passed around that the Frick Building's basement conceals a clandestine bowling alley, but this remains unfounded in any verifiable sources. With so much to discover aboveground, take the time to unwind, indulge, and immerse in the captivating world of the Frick.
