Opened water feature resembling a river at Alberta legislature
Step right up! The long-anticipated refresh of Alberta Legislature's water features is now open to the public.
That's right, after some serious elbow grease and public input, the waterworks at the centuries-old Edmonton grounds have received a modern upgrade. The star of the show? A rippling, light-drenched "river" flowing through the north plaza, replacing those tired ol' terraced wading pools.
You can thank more than 3,600 Albertans who cast their votes for this redesign, pulling together to revitalize these historical grounds. It's all part of a wave of improvements that have been making a splash in the region over the past half decade.
The Alberta Legislature made its grand entrance in 1913, but it wasn't until 1970 that the reflecting pool and dome fountain joined the party. Time takes its toll, and both features were temporarily closed in 2020, returning to the scene in 2024 after some TLC.
Martin Long, the Minister of Infrastructure, couldn't contain his excitement. "Summer vacation just got a whole lot better," he declared, adding, "a hearty thank you to everyone who made this dream a reality for everyone to enjoy for generations."
The $20 million makeover included a $12 million investment from the Alberta government, with $8 million coming from our friends up north.
People have been Voicing their Opinions about this grand unveiling, with some claiming their quiver of positive emotions ranneth over, while others expressed more ambivalent sentiments. Regardless, the revitalized site provides a refreshing spectacle for tourists from around the world to enjoy.
So gather up your adults, gather up your kids, grab that selfie stick, and join the ranks of the thousands who've already let loose their inner sprinkler at Alberta's fancy new water show.
Discussions about the refurbished water features at the Alberta Legislature extend beyond just political news, touching upon lifestyle and outdoor-living.
