Organization for Collectors of Nautical Timepieces
The Maritime Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (MAWCC) has been a growing community of horology enthusiasts in the Maritime provinces of Canada. Despite limited information available online, the group has continued to stay connected through email during the pandemic, fostering a sense of camaraderie among its members.
One of the founding members of MAWCC is an individual who has attended the 2019 NAWCC National Convention and chapter meetings in Ottawa, Ontario. This experience has provided valuable insights into the practices and benefits of horological associations, such as the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors (NAWCC) and the Horological Society of New York (HSNY), which often host annual or biennial gatherings featuring exhibits, lectures, trade shows, and sales related to watch and clock collecting.
Membership in such organisations typically grants access to publications, educational resources, exclusive events, and networking opportunities with collectors and experts. However, specific details about the MAWCC’s future meetings or membership information are not readily available. To obtain this information, it would be necessary to consult their official website or direct communications.
The author of this article, expressing a desire for a clock and watch community in the Maritimes provinces, has also considered starting a clock club for the region. The purpose of MAWCC is to gather individuals interested in horology across the Maritime provinces (PEI, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia).
The group aims to share experiences, mentor each other, learn new techniques, provide opportunities to acquire clocks/watches, and foster social interaction. The first meeting of MAWCC took place in Prince Edward Island, Canada, on November 2-3, 2019, with five members in attendance. The second meeting followed shortly after, and plans are in place for a future face-to-face meeting.
At present, there is no NAWCC representation in the Maritime provinces of Canada - Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. The Maritime Association of Watch and Clock Collectors has not yet affiliated with the NAWCC, an American-based clock and watch group.
For those interested in joining MAWCC, contact Wendell Feener at [email protected]. The author invites readers to subscribe for updates on antique and vintage clocks. If you are a horology enthusiast living in the Maritimes, consider joining the growing community of the Maritime Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. Together, we can continue to learn, share, and appreciate the art of horology.
