Oberhausen (dpa) - "Call the doc, I've got island fever," croons the catchy tune by Julian Sommer and Frenzy from the famous Ballermann anthems. It seems like a chorus that should have reverberated through Oberhausen on Saturday, as the town hosted the biggest Mallorca-themed bash in Germany.
This Island Fever party, as organizers call it, was the place to be for those yearning for the Spanish island vibe, albeit in the heart of the Ruhr area.
"This place just radiates Mallorca energy, moved over to Germany, and that's the gold standard for why this event shines," explains singer and host, Frenzy (("Lights on")). The outdoor venue of the Rudolf-Weber-Arena, nestled near the Rhine-Herne Canal and the expansive Westfield Centro shopping center, hosted over 100 artists who would typically be found bustling around the "Bierkönig" and "Megapark El Arenal" in Mallorca.
The lineup included big names like Mickie Krause ("A week awake"), Mia Julia ("The train has no brakes"), Lorenz Büffel ("Johnny Dapp"), Isi Glück ("Dolphin"), Julian Sommer ("Close in the plane") or Marc Eggers ("Top").
Despite the free water dispensers, the heat, combined with beer and sangria, proved too much for some of the 35,000 Ballermann enthusiasts, as EMTs worked tirelessly throughout the night.
According to online sources, there might be another Mallorca-themed event happening soon, which goes by the name of "Inselfieber." Although we can't be entirely sure if it's the same party, "Inselfieber" is set to take place at the Rudolf-Weber-Arena on June 16, 2025, starting at 13:00, featuring Mia Julia and Mickie Krause, among others.
