Peace will once more soar in Torgelow on the 1st of May, symbolizing a renewal of tranquility.
Festivus in Ueckerpassage: A 27-Year Tradition Continues
Once again, the celebrated Torgelower Mai Verein family festival rolls around, this time on the occasion of May 1st in Ueckerpassage. The jamboree is an institution in the city, now entering its 27th year. The Verein, in collaboration with supporters, has lined up an enticing program for the celebrations.
Pipes and Parades
Kicking off at approximately 9:30 AM, the spectacle begins with a bagpipe bands parade from Altwarp and Muêhlhof/Prenzlau. The procession commences at the Henwi parking lot (Altwarp) and the market square (Muêhlhof), before converging at the Ueckerpassage. A joint concert follows, where pipers showcase their skills in harmony. Gerhard Konstantin, mastermind behind the festival, shares, "We'll inaugurate the festivities at 10 AM with a dove release peace ceremony at the Ueckerpassage entrance, symbolizing our pledge for peace."
Gathering in Ueckerpassage
The official opening marks the start of a diversified program until around 5 PM. The Torgelow youth fire brigade will put on a captivating display, while the raffle, bakery, spinning wheel, and a dachshund show by the Uecker will enthrall visitors. Torgelow's chosen representatives, the children and youth council, will also have their dedicated stand and share information about their city activities. The athletic wrestlers from the Sport and Athletes Verein Torgelow-Drogeheide (SAV-Torgelow) will display their skills further enriching the day.
Speaker of the Hour
This year, Matthias Platzeck, a representative from the SPD, has been chosen as the guest speaker, following a rotation system. Konstantin announced, "Last year, the trade union hosted Laura Poth, the regional chairman of the German Trade Union Confederation North. Manuela Schwesig graced the stage as a guest speaker. This year, we eagerly await Matthias Platzeck." The address is expected to start around 10:30 AM, with Platzeck likely staying at the celebration for a bit afterward.
Cultural Interlude
From 1 PM, visitors can enjoy a cultural program comprising dance groups, live music, singing, and a shanty choir. Gerhard Konstantin, in a bout of excitement, spoke about a talented young singer, Abby, discovered during music workshops at the youth club, who will captivate audiences on the terrace. In addition, traditional Honduran cuisine from the field kitchen and non-alcoholic beverages provided by the youth fire brigade will be available. "Once more, we hope that this joyful, peaceful family festival will bring cheer to all generations," assures Konstantin, underlining that entry is free.
In the midst of the diverse program, a home-and-garden segment will be introduced, showcasing Torgelow's children and youth council's stand with city activities information and a dachshund show by the Uecker. Visitors can also partake in traditional Honduran cuisine during the cultural program, further enriching the lifestyle experience at Festivus in Ueckerpassage.
