Proposed Redevelopment Scheme for East London Housing Unit
Teviot Estate Regeneration: 2,000 New Homes and Community Facilities for Tower Hamlets
Poplar, East London, is set to witness a significant transformation with the Teviot Estate regeneration, a community-led development project valued at around £800 million. The project, scheduled to start on site at the end of 2025, aims to deliver approximately 2,000 new homes and boost housing supply in Tower Hamlets.
The development, a partnership between Poplar HARCA and The Hill Group, is committed to ensuring that the regeneration programme reflects the things that matter most to local residents. The masterplan, designed by BPTW, covers eight hectares and offers a wide range of homes from studios and apartments to family houses.
The regeneration has already invested over £400,000 to local projects and is expected to generate over £278 million in social value over its 15-year duration. Phase one will deliver 475 homes, with 45% being affordable.
The Teviot Estate development will not only provide new homes but also include new open green and play spaces, shops, community and faith facilities, and improved infrastructure. The project emphasizes strong community involvement and aims to deliver social value by improving housing quality, creating green spaces, enhancing local amenities, and fostering local employment opportunities.
Paul Dooley, director of regeneration and development at Poplar HARCA, expressed his satisfaction at reaching a significant milestone in the Teviot Estate development. The entire project is forecast to be completed by 2042.
The Teviot Estate regeneration is a testament to the power of community-led development, with local residents instrumental in shaping the plans. The development is one step closer to delivering more affordable homes and community facilities for Tower Hamlets residents, making Poplar a more vibrant and sustainable community.
